Review of the August Glossy Box

OK, so I am a bit late at posting the review of this months GlossyBox for two reasons. Firstly I was away on holiday when it arrived and secondly I was that disappointed I just did not want to write about it. On reflection I decided to write a brief review of it.

When it arrived I was full of the monthly excitement at wondering what was in the box and unwrapping it. However once I opened the box it was a massive disappointment. By far the worse GlossyBox I have received in the year that I have been subscribing.

This months box contained 6 samples rather than their usual 5 (maybe they knew how bad it would be and thought that would sweeten things up!)

* Allessandro pro white nail varnish – Brush on your nails and it makes them appear cleaner and whiter. The only downside is that I found that it chipped easily. Not worth the £7.85 that GlossyBox claims it is worth though. I will use this product but i will not purchase it after I have used this sample.

* DHC deep cleansing oil – I do like this make up remover and a little does go a long way and it does leave your skin feeling soft. However as it is an international product and hard to get hold of I doubt I would get it in the future.

* imPress nails – a product I like. However GlossyBox have included these in a previous box too. Good product but I hated the colour and have therefore given them away,

* Vera Valenti – eyeshadow palette. – apparently and ‘hero’ product from Spain. Who are the kidding>? its a 2 for £1 deal from the local market kinda product. absolutely shocking!!!! BU GlossyBoxs on admission it is not exactly high end – given away by the fact they give it an RRP of £3.83! An insult to subscribers that GlossyBox felt this was an appropriate product for their paying customers! I offered this to my mum who does use cheaper products. Even she did not want it!. In the bin it goes…

* Lipcote – what?!? I used this when I was a teenager at school…and I bought it from the local market then! Again, seriously GlossyBox…high end I think not!

* GlossyBox lipstick – own brand products as high end? At least this time they threw in own brand products they had the decency to add it as an extra!

On reflection this box was defiantly not worth the £10 (plus P&P) I paid – I could but the contents for half that at the local market. Certainly not the high end products that GlossyBox promises on its website. Maybe they should be looked into by the trades description act (Yes the box was that bad!). I did go onto the website to unsubscribe but the email I received promising a ‘special’ box next month as kept my interest – for now.

Note to GlossyBox – must do better!

Jelly Pong Pong make up

As i mentioned in my review of the July GlossyBox, Jelly Pong Pong lip gloss was the very first thing I had every purchased on the same day as receiving a box. So when I loved the lip frosting so much yesterday I searched online to buy it. Unfortunately it was out of stock on their website (www.jellypongpong.com) however I found the products on the Beauty Boxx website (www.beautyboxx.co.uk – they also sell other make up brands and slightly cheaper that the Jelly Pong Pong website. So i ordered the Lip Frosting (just so I can lick it all off my lips hehe) and the Fashion week gift bag.

It came beautifully packaged and arrived the next day despite me only placing the order t 3pm yesterday and it was even free P&P! In the fashion week (yes wide open) gift bag (£14) there was; fairy lashes mascara in flutter, false lashes, eyeshadow duo in skinny latte and nude & improved eye shadow base in nude.

The mascara is fab! I just love the packaging! I love anything fairy related at the best of times (hence the blog name!) so this is just perfect! The mascara itself is black and waterproof. The mascara is made from cotton seed extract which also keep eyelashes hydrated. This will definitely be my everyday mascara…especially with mu=y impending holidays and it been waterproof for the pool!

The eyeshadow base comes in a stick and glides on easily. I am a fa of eyeshadow bases as I like dramatic eyes on a night out and I find they really help to keep eyeshadow in place and keep the bright colours. I will certainly be using this on my next night out.

The eyeshadow duo (skinny latte) contained two shades perfect for creating the smokey eyes look. I love that it includes a little mirror too.

After this I think I have definitely become a fan of Jelly Pong Pong products. I love their scents and the playful & colourful packaging. They definitely suit my personality!

Review of the July GlossyBox

20120726-112316.jpg

I have not really been too impressed with the last few GlossyBoxes since the special edition Harrods box. Since then I think this is the first box that as some contents I genuinely really like. Although I still think GlossyBox can do better and utilise the beauty profiles you have to fill in when you subscribe e.g. I stated I prefer make up products and I am in my 20’s yet have received anti-ageing products in the past. ANyway on to this months box…

BEX London SE1 perfume – when I first sprayed this on I really did not like it. ALthough after a few minutes it started growing on me. It does seem fairly long wearing too. Several hours later it still had a strong scent. Although it has not made me ike it enough to go out and buy it, I will use the sample. After all perfume samples are handy size to take away for a weekend break or night out and to keep in your handbag.

Paul Mitchell Awapohi Moisture Mist (100ml) – GlossyBox did will with this, it really is a good size sample and much better than some of the tiny sizes you sometime receive. Yes I know GlossyBox is a sample service but lets face it when your paying £10 a month you expect/want decent sizes so you really get chance to test the product out. I tested this product out yesterday whilst it was really warm weather. I sprayed it over my skin which was really refreshing in the heat. Although I did spray it in my hair too I am guessing this is something you would see the effects off over a longer period of time if you usually have dry hair.

Monu eye cool gel – This is another product I will actually use. When I am at work  have late nights/early morning therefore I can see this getting a lot of use to smooth out those huge shopping bags I carry around under the eyes. I may end up purchasing this in the future.

Jelly Pong Pong lip frosting – OMG what can I say about this other than ‘I LOVE it!’ It smells (and tastes!) divine, like a little piece of heaven on your lips! It smells of Raspberry Pavlova and is so sweet (but not too sweet). This is the first product since I have been subscribing to GlossyBox and went out and purchased on the same day (and whilst there I also purchased other Jelly Pong Pong products  – I can;t wait for them to arrive!) although I did find them out of stock on their website (I am guessing many other GlossyBox subscribers did the same!) I found the products on Beautyboxx.co.uk at a decent price too. Oh I almost forgot to say this was also another good size sample in this box.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse – This is not really a product I would really use It does smell ok and I did splash it onto mu hands (the one area I do get dry skin) but I think I will pass this onto someone who will get use out of it.

There was also an additional bonus sample this month in the form of Elizabeth Ardens Visible difference gentle hydrating skincare. I have not had chance to use this, again not something I would use so i may pass it on. It does say on the card that comes with the box that if you show the card at an Elizabeth Arden counter in Debenhams you will also receive an additional deluxe sample. I will aim to collect this the next time I go shopping.

Overall there a few products I like this month (the lip frosting and Paul Mitchell spray) that do make it worthwhile. I am still not completely convinced by GlossyBox but they have persuaded me to give it one more month.

Glossybox – Review of the May box

I love getting the monthly delivery of GlossyBox, it’s my little treat to myself. For those of you who don’t know, GlossyBox is one of a few ‘beauty boxes’ available right now on the UK. Basically you subscribe to the box and each month you get sent a box of beauty samples. GlossyBox costs £10 a month, to receive 5 high end samples. The main reason I like it is that its like receiving a present, a little treat as you never know what your getting until it arrives. Of course that does mean that some months are better than others, but that is the risk. Personally I prefer the boxes where you receive more make up samples. My favourite box to date as been the special edition Harrods box. I just loved the mini Burberry lipstick and Fendi miniature perfume.

This months box contained two birthday items as well as the five samples. These were a mirror and a balloon (I guess in keeping with the birthday theme!). The box contained two perfume samples (Lolita Lempicka), Noble Isle shower gel, Neal’s Yard rehydrating daily moisture, Collection gel eyeliner and false lashes.

Noble Isle Summer Rising bath & shower gel (75ml)– I really like the fresh smell of this shower gel. Nothing special really, it does what it says – it is a shower gel! I do like this product. Would I buy it myself? It would depend on the cost really and if it caught my eye. A decent size bottle for a sample though.

Lolita Lempika perfume – This month you got two small perfume samples both by Lolita Lempicka. I loved them! The L’Eau en Blanc was lush! I would definitely buy this (in fact I have been dropping hints at the hubby!). It smells really feminine and pretty. definitely a scent I would wear everyday during the day.

Neal’s Yard Remedies rehydrating rose daily moisture – Not really a product I normally use. I have not tried this yet although I will give it a go. It smells quite nice.

Collection Lasting colour gel eyeliner – This is a product of the rebranded collection 2000. Initially I was a bit miffed about this been in the box as it is supposed to be high end products. I liked the little tub and the mini brush. However the colour I was sent was gold so it is not a colour I would wear often, I guess that is all dependent on the outfit. I am a fan of gel eyeliner although I normally buy Urban Decay black gel liner. This one by collection costs around £5 and due to its small size it is perfect for travelling or to pop in your handbag. I might buy this in black for this reason.

Eldora false lashes – I do not wear false lashes, therefore I have given them a friend. She liked them, but did not go into much detail or compare them to the ones she usually wears.

The only products I will really get the use out of this month are the shower gel and the perfume and perhaps the eyeliner (its a shame the colour sent wasn’t a more everyday colour really), so overall I have mixed thoughts on this months box. I have been considering trying  different brand of beauty box so might have a look around on the internet. I will give GlossyBox another month to see what is in the next box.
